I would like to try my hand at making a Japanese Puzzle box but I cannot find a resource for plans. I read reviews of the couple of books that are out but all got poor ratings for lots of good reasons. I’d like to just find some plans to study and fiddle with.
Gabe: Thanks for the response. I am surprised at how difficult it is to find decent plans — I get the feeling those who know are trying to keep the secret! I had already seen the Quagmire site you referenced; the problem with it is he doesn’t really give you any plans… he just talks about how hard it is supposed to be to build a puzzle box — not very helpfulf, really. He references the only thing I’ve run into that could be called plans but even it is weak: http://www.am-wood.com/apr98/puzzle.html. I’m gonna keep looking.
This is the only plans i have been able to find (also on a search for plans to tinker with). Its seems to be a fairly simple box, a good one to practice with and then change to your liking as you begin to understand its concepts a bit better. Let me know if you find anything else!
